A couple of months ago we posted a demo video of our paperless hearing calendar or “digital bulletin board” in its beta phase. After some adjustments to the UI and updates to the functionality, we’re proud to release the first iteration of the final product!

These monitors are bigger, brighter and better than the previous version on a small personal tablet.

Last month we launched the prototype demo of our new digital bulletin board as part of a green paperless initiative!

Presently, when hearings are deferred or there are updates to the agenda, time, location, etc., paper copies of the amendments are printed and distributed to City Hall and several floors at 250 Broadway. The idea to have a paperless solution has been in the works for a long time, but only now did we have ability to push this project forward.

In an effort to increase transparency and demystify the workings of the City Council, we are putting out redesigned budget reports.

So far, for Fiscal Year 2019 we have:

From March to April, the Council analyzes the Mayor’s preliminary budget and holds a series of public hearings to identify specific concerns through conversations with residents, advocates, and city agencies.

We worked with Councilmatic to create a new Legislative site! It allows you to search for hearings, legislation, & sign up for email updates about Council members or meetings! It’s the easiest way to stay up-to-date with the Council!

Legislative API

Today, we introduced a legislative API detailing all of our laws, meetings, and Councilmembers.

What is an API?

The Council shares and archives all of our legislative information, including proposed and passed legislation, hearings, and monthly Stated meetings, on our Legislative Research Center, known as Legistar. The New York City Council Legistar system was built by Granicus using their Legistar Legislative Management Suite.

As part of our commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion and equity in tech workforce development, the Council is funding a pilot program geared toward NYCHA residents. Through this funding, Coalition 4 Queens and Per Scholas will provide training in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and software development. This training will then be considered as qualifications for hiring in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree by 11 companies who have signed onto the initiative’s pledge.
