The good weather brings street fairs! Here’s a calendar for those in the 6th Council District (and the location of my office table!):

  • Sunday 6/7, Broadway from 65th–72nd (our table btw. 68th–69th)
  • Sunday 6/14, Amsterdam from 79th–86th (our table btw. 88th-89th)
  • Sunday 8/16, Broadway from 86th–93rd (our table btw. 88th–89th)
  • Sunday 9/20, Broadway from 86th–96th (our table btw. 89th–90th)
  • Sunday 10/4, Columbus from 66th–72nd (our table btw. 70th–71st)
  • Sunday 10/11, Broadway from 72nd–82nd (our table btw. 76th–77th)

Ongoing events from my office:

  • First and third Thursdays, from 10 am–5 pm, a member of West Side Campaign Against Hunger’s Benefits Access Specialist Team will be at my district office to help people apply for SNAP benefits (a.k.a. food stamps), submit case changes or appeals, and answer questions. Starting in September, WSCAH will be here every first and third Thursday of the month through December. Call my office at 212-873-0282  to schedule an appointment.
  • Last Tuesdays, 10 am–3 pm, at my District Office (563 Columbus Ave.): A Veteran Service Officer with the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be available to assist veterans applying for VA benefits, whether disability, pension, healthcare, dependent, education or home loans. Bring military service records and discharge form DD214; no appointment necessary.
  • On Mondays from 2–6 pm, Cheryl, our talented volunteer helps those with SCRIE/DRIE applications and renewals. To make an appointment, call 212-873-0828.
  • Every second Tuesday of the month, through November, representatives from the NYC Department of Finance will be at my office to assist with SCRIE/DRIE/SCHE/DHE and more. To make an appointment, call 212-873-0828.
  • First Wednesdays (except August or on or following holidays): 6 pm, Goddard Riverside (593 Columbus @88th St.): Our monthly Housing Clinics. The July topic (7/8) is “Rental Assistance.”  There’ll be a presentation and Q&A and an opportunity for a free consultation with a housing attorney. Co-sponsored by Goddard Riverside and TakeRoot Justice. Please arrive a little early to sign in; capacity is limited. Call 212-873-0282 for info.
  • Once a month, June-August, reps from the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) will be at my District Office and can help New Yorkers prepare to apply for affordable housing, file a housing complaint, finance improvements and repairs, register your building, or remedy a violation with their HPD in Your District program.
