- Sunday, 3/8, 1–4 pm, Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan (334 Amsterdam Ave. btw. W. 75 and W. 76th St): Annual Children’s Book Fair. Because kids outgrow their books, we’ve hosted this event for four years to redistribute them to new generations.
- Monday, 3/9, 6–8 pm, Gertrude Ederle Recreation Center (232 W. 60th St.): CPR and Naloxone Bystander Training. Reps from the FDNY and Ryan Health Center will teach the proper methods to use these lifesaving techniques. Limited space; please RSVP here.
- Monday, 3/23, 6–8 pm (doors 5:15), Theater at John Jay College (524 W. 59 St. at 10th Ave.): Council Member Brewer’s Town Hall for the Upper West Side and Clinton. We’ll have elected officials and reps from Community Boards and city agencies available to answer your questions. RSVP not required.
- Thursday, 4/30, 6–7:30 pm, Goddard Riverside Community Center (593 Columbus at 88 St.): Block Associations are Back! Join my office and the Upper West Side Coalition of Block Associations and Community Groups for this workshop to learn what a block association is, how to join one, organize one and how to make your block association effective. - Thursday, 4/16, 4:30–7:30, 563 Columbus: District Office Open House
Ongoing events from my office:
- First and third Thursdays, from 10 am–5 pm, a member of West Side Campaign Against Hunger’s Benefits Access Specialist Team will be at my district office to help people apply for SNAP benefits (a.k.a. food stamps), submit case changes or appeals, and answer questions. Starting in September, WSCAH will be here every first and third Thursday of the month through December. Call my office at 212-873-0282 to schedule an appointment.
- Last Tuesdays, 10 am–3 pm, at my District Office (563 Columbus Ave.): A Veteran Service Officer with the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be available to assist veterans applying for VA benefits, whether disability, pension, healthcare, dependent, education or home loans. Bring military service records and discharge form DD214; no appointment necessary.
- On Mondays from 2–5 pm, Cheryl, our talented volunteer helps those with SCRIE/DRIE applications and renewals, first-come, first-served. However, she will not be in the office again until Monday 2/2.
- First Wednesdays (except on or following holidays): 6 pm, Goddard Riverside (593 Columbus @88th St.): Our monthly Housing Clinics. The February topic (2/4) is “Repairs.” There’ll be a presentation and Q&A and an opportunity for a free consultation with a housing attorney. Co-sponsored by Goddard Riverside and TakeRoot Justice.
