Events happening soon, sponsored by my office:
Sunday, 1/25, 1–4 pm, Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan (334 Amsterdam Ave. btw. W.
75 and W. 76th St): Annual Children’s Book Fair. Because kids outgrow their books, we’ve
hosted this event for four years to redistribute them to new generations. (Contribute
your outgrown, gently-used children’s books in good shape (even foreign-language ones!)
to my District Office beginning Monday, 1/5/26 through 1/16, then drop off at MMJCC
between Monday, 1/19–Friday, 1/23.)
Ongoing events from my office:
- First and third Thursdays, from 10 am–5 pm, a member of West Side Campaign Against Hunger’s Benefits Access Specialist Team will be at my district office to help people apply for SNAP benefits (a.k.a. food stamps), submit case changes or appeals, and answer questions. Starting in September, WSCAH will be here every first and third Thursday of the month through December. Call my office at 212-873-0282 to schedule an appointment.
- Last Tuesdays, 10 am–3 pm, at my District Office (563 Columbus Ave.): A Veteran Service Officer with the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be available to assist veterans applying for VA benefits, whether disability, pension, healthcare, dependent, education or home loans. Bring military service records and discharge form DD214; no appointment necessary.
- Tuesdays 11/18 and 12/9, reps from the Dept. of Finance are in the District Office to help applicants for SCRIE/DRIE. And don’t forget that Cheryl, our talented volunteer who also helps with SCRIE/DRIE applications and renewals, is in the office every Monday (except 11/10) from 2–5 pm.
- First Wednesdays (except on or following holidays): 6 pm, Goddard Riverside (593 Columbus @88th St.): Our monthly Housing Clinics. The December topic (12/10) is “Holdovers.” There’ll be a presentation and Q&A and an opportunity for a free consultation with a housing attorney. Co-sponsored by Goddard Riverside and TakeRoot Justice. Please arrive a little early to sign in; capacity is limited. Call 212-873-0282 for info.
