City Hall, April 30, 2008 – Following a lengthy and collaborative public review and hearing process, the members of the City Council will vote on an extensive rezoning plan for the 125th Street Corridor in Harlem.

The Council will also vote on legislation that would:
• Preserve existing character and greenery in New York City neighborhoods by prohibiting homeowners from completely paving over front yards, which is commonly done to create off-street parking;

City Hall, April 16, 2008 – At today’s Stated Council meeting, the members of the City will vote on comprehensive legislation to give taxi and livery cab drivers greater and fairer protections during the dispute process administrated by the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) Administrative Tribunal. City Hall, April 1st, 2008 – Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn today presented the City Council’s response to Mayor Bloomberg’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 preliminary budget. In presenting her response, Speaker Quinn identified over $1.37 billion in additional budgetary resources, including substantial revenues, agency cuts, and agency re-estimations.

CITY HALL – The City Council approved a home rule request today, urging state lawmakers to vote in favor of congestion pricing legislation. The home rule request, which passed the Council 30-20, will be sent to Albany for consideration prior to votes in the State Legislature.

City Hall, March 26, 2008 – At today’s Stated Council meeting, the members of the New York City Council will vote to override a mayoral veto of anti-discrimination legislation that would prohibit discrimination against tenants based on lawful source of rent payment. This legislation will help maximize the use of available Section 8 vouchers and protect access to safe and permanent housing for low-income families.

CITY HALL – On Monday, March 24th, the Council’s Committee on State and Federal Legislation will hold an oversight hearing to discuss the recommendations made by the New York City Traffic Congestion Mitigation Commission. The commission, which released its final report on January 31st, was asked to analyze the costs and benefits of various plans to reduce traffic congestion in New York City and to formulate a final set of recommendations for the actions the city should take.

CITY HALL – The City Council’s Housing and Buildings Committee will convene a hearing at 10 a.m. on April 29, to discuss and determine reforms for construction site safety at high-rise developments.
