CITY HALL – Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, together with Oversight and Investigations Chair Eric Gioia and Council Member Letitia James, today released a report that shows oversight of New York State’s Milk Price Gouging Law has decreased significantly, resulting in Citywide milk prices that are above the State determined legal threshold. The report is titled “Milk Money: Price Gouging and New York City Milk Sales.”

The legislators were joined by a number of food and consumer advocates, including: Steven Newman, COO of Public Health Solutions, Tracy Shelton of NYPIRG, Joel Berg of the Coalition Against Hunger, Carlos Rodrigez and Aine Duggan of the Food Bank for New York.

Improved regulations will ensure safety of firefighters and emergency responders
First comprehensive revision of fire code in nearly 100 years

City Hall, May 28, 2008 – At today’s Stated Council meeting, the City Council will vote on legislation to improve and enhance current fire safety regulations by adopting more modern and comprehensive fire safety regulations. Quinn identified approximately $160 million in alternative cuts to New York City schools and discussed several proposals to strengthen and improve Mayoral control over the City’s public schools.

City Hall – Speaker Christine C. Quinn was in Staten Island today to celebrate the opening the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Center of Staten Island.
