“As New Yorkers continue to emerge from the pandemic, it is paramount that our City and State restore riders’ confidence in a transit system that is safe, reliable, and well-functioning, while still respecting New Yorkers’ civil liberties. Today’s announcement of new funding to install security cameras in subway cars and stations is a welcome step towards that shared goal. It is critical that the MTA ensures that these cameras are operational and maintained to avoid malfunctions, and considers complementary infrastructure investments to make our subways stations safer.

City Hall, NY – Today, Speaker Adrienne Adams and the Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus (BLAC) announced a package of bills to improve the diversity, equity and inclusion practices at the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY). Includes bill officially designating geographic boundaries of Times Square as ‘sensitive area’ by law

City Hall, NY – Today, the Council approved two bills to address gun violence, as well as legislation to support expanded language access at abortion providers and prevent opioid overdoses at bars and clubs. Introduction 602-A, sponsored by Speaker Adrienne Adams, defines the geographical boundaries of the Times Square area – now classified by State law as a “sensitive area” where licensed individuals are restricted from carrying concealed weapons.

City Hall, NY – In response to the congestion pricing Environmental Assessment (EA) released on August 10, 2022, Council Speaker Adrienne Adams submitted public comments to the Environmental Justice Stakeholders Working Group of the Central Business District Tolling Program. She expresses her concerns about persistent transit inequities for many communities of color in the outer-boroughs, and the environmental impacts on low-income communities of color.
