ICYMI- New York City’s YMCA Teens Take the City participants took over City Hall! Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito & Council Member Helen Rosenthal welcomed the young leaders to the People’s House.
In April, teen Council Members and advocates gathered at Brooklyn Borough Hall, presenting 21 proposals, identifying the top ten ideas for a better NYC.
In Chambers, these top ten were presented, debated and voted on, determining which ideas the teens believe should be implemented in NYC.

Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and the @National Leagues of Cities, an advocacy group that represents the interests of over 1,600 cities, convened municipal legislative leaders to foster inter-city legislative collaboration and tackle issues ranging from infrastructure to constituent outreach to criminal justice reform.

This is another important step in our commitment to improving the lives of residents through the expansion of educational opportunities and the exploration of innovative systems of learning, and I am so thrilled to see this initiative begin right here in the South Bronx, which for so long has gone historically overlooked and underfunded.
This program represents a brighter future for local students, and a welcome option for parents in search of additional school choice.
