BROOKLYN, NY – New York City Council Member Farah N. Louis issued the following statement after a heavily armed gunman wearing body armor opened fire in the Oregon district of Dayton, Ohio. The gunman was shot and killed by police. Nine people were killed and 27 are injured.

STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH N. LOUIS

“In less than 24 hours, the city of Dayton is now the latest community devastated by gun violence. Chaos and carnage have become the new norm this summer. Once again, the swift actions of first responders saved hundreds of lives. In the aftermath of the shooting, 9 people have died and 27 are injured. I wish a speedy recovery to the survivors who sustained injuries and extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.

“As the number of mass shootings continues to rise, four in one week and 250 so far this year, we need the Trump Administration to finally take action in remedying this national crisis. Unfortunately, the lack of leadership and expediency in Washington will continue to endanger the lives of innocent Americans nationwide. Brownsville, Gilroy, El Paso, and now Dayton deserve more than our thoughts and prayers.”

New York City Council Member Farah N. Louis represents the 45th Council District which is comprised of Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, Marine Park, Flatlands, & Kensington in Brooklyn, NY.
