Brooks-Powers, elected officials, labor leaders, and community leaders to call on Governor Kathy Hochul to support a level 1 or 2 trauma facility on the Rockaway Peninsula. The community will also celebrate over $50 million secured towards bringing a new Far Rockaway trauma center.

Why: The deaths of Justin Wallace and Detective Jonathan Diller both highlighted the need for quality, accessible trauma care for those living and working in Far Rockaway. With a population of more than 2 million people, Queens has only three trauma centers serving adults. In Far Rockaway, the southernmost part of Queens, the closest facility is almost 10 miles away. This distance is a matter of life and death in emergency situations. The Administration has already secured $25 million and committed to fully fund a level 1 or 2 trauma facility in Far Rockaway, but now it is time for Governor Hochul to step up!
