Queens, NY — New York City Council Majority Whip Selvena N. Brooks-Powers is proud to host a full slate of summer events across Council District 31 to bring neighbors together, share resources, and celebrate our vibrant Southeast Queens and Rockaway communities.

From movie nights in the park to community days, budget briefings, and resource events, these gatherings reflect the Council Member’s commitment to building an inclusive, informed, and joyful community. Please see the calendar of events below.

July

  • Tuesday, July 22 at 6:30 PM – Community Budget Briefing at P.S. 156, Laurelton (229-02 137th Avenue, Laurelton, NY 11413)
    • Presentation on Fiscal Year 2026 budget wins for Council District 31.  
  • Thursday, July 24 at 6:30 PM – Community Budget Briefing at Rockaway YMCA (207 Beach 73rd Street, Arverne, NY 11692)
    • Presentation on Fiscal Year 2026 budget wins for Council District 31.  
  • Saturday, July 26 at 4:00 PM – Rosedale Jets Community Day and Movie Night at Brookville Park (144-14 232 Street, Springfield Gardens 11413)
    • Join us for team practice for the Rosedale Jets at 4 pm, registration on site. Meet and greet with RFJA players, cheerleaders, band, and staff; alongside barbeque, games, and raffles for the community starting at 6:30 pm. Movie night, playing “Transformers One” at 8:30 pm, popcorn and drinks will be provided as well as free entry.
  • Thursday, July 31 at 6:00 PM – Traffic Violations Assistance Event with Department of Finance at the 116th Precinct (Community Room 244-04 N Conduit Avenue, Rosedale, NY 11422)
    • Learn how to enroll in a parking/camera ticket payment plan, how to dispute summons concerning such, and learn common defenses and acceptable evidence used in court.  

August

  • Saturday, August 9 at 8:30 PM – Movie Night at Springfield Park (Springfield Boulevard & 184th Street, Queens, NY, 11413)
    • Join us for movie night, playing “Mufasa: The Lion King” at 8:30 pm. Free entry for the event, with popcorn and drinks provided for free, with a limited supply.  
  • Saturday, August 16 at 12:00 PM – District 31 Family Reunion at Brookville Park (144th Avenue and Brookville Boulevard, Rosedale, NY 11422)
    • Join us for food, live music, games, family, and even more! Register at the councilmembers’ tent for a meal ticket and a chance to win raffle prizes.  
  • Saturday, August 23 at 8:00 AM – Queens Carnival (Bayswater Park, 701 Bay 32nd Street, Queens, NY 11691)
    • Join us for the Annual Queens Carnival event, featuring masquerades, paints & powders, vendors, and a special kiddie carnival with fireworks to end the night. For more information on the event, contact Senator Sanders’ office at 718-253-3069 or email LisaGeorgeCarnival@gmail.com.
