(Far Rockaway, NY) Building on momentum to secure a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma facility in Far Rockaway, community members, labor leaders, and elected officials will gather on Friday, June 27 at 12:00 PM at the site committed by Mayor Adams. They will call on the Administration to fund the land transfer application needed to move the project forward. The transfer, which requires approval from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is a critical step in advancing the trauma facility effort.
In the FY25 budget, the Administration committed $25 million for the trauma center — an important milestone. For the FY26 budget, this group is calling on the Administration to commit $300,000 to transfer the NYCHA-owned lot to the Administration, and further advance this critical project.
What: Rally to demand funding of the NYCHA land transfer fee for Far Rockaway Trauma Center
When: Friday, June 27, 2025 – 12:00 PM
Where: Corner of Beach 62nd Street and Arverne Boulevard, Far Rockaway, Queens – Location of NYCHA-owned lot

Why: Far Rockaway continues to face an unacceptable healthcare gap. With the nearest trauma center nearly 10 miles away, emergency care delays put lives at risk. The City has already committed $50M in capital funding to build a trauma center. The community is urging the Administration to maintain their commitment of the land transfer.
Media Opportunities: Interviews with elected officials, community members and task force representatives; photo and video opportunities of the rally and speakers.
