Qualifying New Yorkers Should Take Advantage of the EITC with Only One Week until Tax Day
New York – City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, Council Member Eric Gioia, and Bishop Mitchell Taylor today reminded New Yorkers to take advantage of the City’s free and low-cost tax preparation sites with just one week left until April 15th. The City’s free tax preparation sites ensure that low-income New Yorkers take full advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit, a tax benefit they are entitled to receive.

Council’s revenue projections fall below Office of Management and Budget estimates for the first time since 2003
City Hall – Speaker Christine C. Quinn, together with Finance Committee Chair David Weprin, today presented the City Council’s response to Mayor Bloomberg’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2010 preliminary budget. According to the Council’s projections, City tax revenues have fallen an additional $295 million since the Mayor released the FY10 preliminary budget.

Landmark legislation is helping tenants to end the harassment designed to get them out of their homes
CITY HALL – City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, together with Council Members Daniel R. Garodnick, Diana Reyna, Melissa Mark Viverito, Helen Sears and Alan Gerson, joined tenants from around the City who have exercised their right under the Tenant Protection Act (TPA) to confront unscrupulous landlords in housing court for harassment.

“I applaud the Department of Education on joining my District Office today for a tour of the 7th floor of 75 Morton St. The site, which is currently vacant, is being considered as a potential middle school site. If the decision is made by the DOE to use the site, this will greatly help relieve crowding at schools PS 3 and PS 41.

“I applaud the Mayor Bloomberg, Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden, and New York City Board of Health for changing their rules to allow legally married lesbian couples to list both partners as parents on their child’s birth certificate.
