DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The New York City Council, New York’s legislative body, is seeking to fill the position of Press Secretary in the Communications office.
The Press Secretary will support the Communications Director in overseeing the day-to-day operations and management of the communications team.
The Press Secretary will be responsible for:
- Supporting press staff in pitching stories, responding to press inquiries and planning press conferences;
- Drafting and editing press releases, op-eds, talking points and external written materials;
- Assisting in day-to-day media relations for the Council Communications office.
Applicants must have three or more years of full time experience in government and/or political communications, exceptional writing skills and a familiarity with New York City politics. The position demands individuals who are capable of working in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines. Prior management experience is a plus. Bilingual, English/Spanish is a plus.
New York City Residency required within 90 days of appointment.
Salary commensurate with experience.
