The New York City Council, an equal opportunity employer, is seeking a Creative Coordinator to join its Communications Division. The Creative Coordinator at the New York City Council is responsible for developing and executing cutting-edge creative content to advance the Council’s communications objectives.

The ideal candidate is an experienced and resourceful creative with a strong portfolio and experience translating complex topics into compelling and understandable visual media in a variety of different formats. They should have at least 3 years of experience performing creative work for an agency, campaign, governmental or advocacy organization. A portfolio is required for consideration.

SALARY RANGE:

$90,000 to $105,000

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translate complex written material into compelling and impactful visual representations that resonate with New Yorkers.
  • Design visually engaging creative, including social media graphics, data visualizations, policy explainers, print materials and more.
  • Create professional and sophisticated video content (including animation) for the Council’s social media channels.
  • Work with the Digital Director and Digital team to develop digital communication plans each week.
  • Write engaging social media content in support of Council initiatives and laws.
  • Maintain the Council website and create new content and microsites as needed.
  • Execute social media requests promptly as needed, including after hours and for rapid response.
  • Manage livestream and/or live social media coverage of Council hearings and press conferences on digital platforms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent writing, verbal, and analytical skills, and a deep commitment to learning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work in a collaborative team setting and in partnership with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent graphic design skills with knowledge of design fundamentals and theory with a keen eye for aesthetics and trends.
  • Creative problem-solver with the ability to address issues independently.
  • Expert-level knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effects).
  • Some audio production experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, while listening and learning from feedback.
  • Ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced, and time-pressured environment.
  • High degree of familiarity with New York City, its government and the public affairs landscape.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

New York City residency is required within 90 days of appointment.
