The New York City Council’s Animal Welfare Caucus is dedicated to protecting and advocating for the humane treatment of all animals in New York City – wild and domestic. The Caucus, through advancing legislation, shaping public policy and fighting for budget allocations, works to create a more compassionate New York City for all the animals that call this city home. The Caucus is composed of 19 of the 51 members of the City Council.
About the Position
The Animal Welfare Caucus seeks a Communications Intern who is media-savvy, knowledgeable about New York City’s political landscape, and passionate about animal welfare. The intern will assist the Executive Director with general administrative and operational tasks as needed and will work closely with Caucus leadership.
About the Candidate
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in progressive politics, public service, and city government. This internship offers hands-on experience in legislative research, policy development, and political organizing, as well as the opportunity to collaborate with Council Members, staff, and advocacy partners to advance the policy priorities of the Caucus.
SALARY RANGE:
Hourly rate of $32.05
Key Responsibilities:
- Create short-form video content (e.g., reels) and social media posts to expand the Caucus’s digital reach.
- Draft press statements, media materials, and social media content.
- Support press conferences and public events, including staffing, photography, and live streaming.
- Assist with scheduling meetings and events for Caucus staff.
- Collaborate with the Legislative Intern on joint projects, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Experience with social media platforms (X, Instagram, Bluesky), video editing tools (e.g., CapCut), design tools (e.g., Canva), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Availability to work 14–20 hours per week in a hybrid work environment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
New York City residency is required within 90 days of appointment.
