BROOKLYN, NY — New York City Council Member Farah N. Louis, Co-Chair of the Women’s Caucus, issued the following statement after sexual predator Harvey Weinstein was sentenced today to serve twenty-three years in prison.

STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH N. LOUIS

“Today’s verdict brings a sigh of relief and a victory for survivors of sexual violence everywhere. Unfortunately, it is rare that the law works to the advantage of survivors, but today is different—and the bravery and resiliency of each of the accusers cannot be understated. These incredible women helped kick-start a national movement that has empowered survivors to break their silence and subsequently brought countless abusers to account. There are no winners in this situation, but I commend the Court for taking these accusations seriously. By standing with survivors, we are continuing to shed light on the prevalence of sexual violence while showing abusers that their time is up,” said Council Member Farah N. Louis
