FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK ––– Council Member Farah Louis (D-Brooklyn), Vice Co-Chair of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus, issued the following statement on a drive-by shooting Monday in East Flatbush and the rising trend of gun violence in New York City.

STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH LOUIS

“Yesterday, my office was informed about a drive-by shooting in the vicinity of Utica and Foster Avenue that sent a 23-year-old man to the hospital. I am saddened and angered by yet another incident of gun violence in our community — and by the rising number of shootings and murders across the five boroughs. While police are still investigating, it is clear New York City must do better to protect our neighborhoods. We need to fast-track the $139 million in funds from Gov. Andrew Cuomo to address gun violence. We need to coordinate resources and provide funding for community-led efforts that prevent and respond to shootings. We also need to stop the flow of illegal handguns into our neighborhoods. I offer my prayers that the victim makes a quick recovery.”
