FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK ––– Council Member Farah Louis (D-Brooklyn), Co-Chair of the Women’s Caucus and Vice Co-Chair of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus, issued the following statement following Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation.
STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH LOUIS
“Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced his resignation from office after an investigation from Attorney General Leticia James found him guilty of sexual harassment of multiple women in and out of government. I want to thank Attorney General James for her fair and thorough work on the investigation. Governor Cuomo’s actions were deeply wrong. His decision to resign was the right one as it was clear that he could no longer lead New York State effectively. I hope this brings a measure of justice to the courageous women who came forward to tell the truth and hold Gov. Cuomo accountable for his actions. Their bravery is an inspiration to all. Now, it is time for New York State to move forward under the leadership of our first female governor Kathy Hochul. New Yorkers need a leader who is laser-focused on the state’s continued battle with COVID-19 and the ongoing epidemic of gun violence. I am confident that Governor Hochul has the foresight and ability to lead us through this crisis. I look forward to working with her on the many serious issues facing Council District 45 and New York State.”
