BROOKLYN, NY – New York City Council Member Farah N. Louis issued the following statement after NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill announced the termination of Officer Daniel Pantaleo for his role in the death of Eric Garner in 2014.

STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH N. LOUIS

“NYPD Commissioner O’Neill’s decision to #firePantaleo is long-awaited justice for Eric Garner’s family who have relived that fateful day for five tumultuous years. Although Pantaleo’s termination can never replace what was lost, it is an important step in repairing the strain on community-police relations. Justice has finally been served and I hope that the Garner family can begin the healing process.”
