New York, New York– On May 22, amidst an ongoing strike at Elmhurst Hospital, New York City Council Member Shekar Krishnan and 33 additional Council Members sent a letter to Dr. Kenneth Davis, CEO of the Mount Sinai Health System urging him to bargain in good faith with members of the Committee of Interns and Residents/SEIU and to offer pay on par with other Mount Sinai doctors across the city. The strike is the first in New York City since 1990, and involves more than 150 physicians.“

I’ve seen how these doctors, members of CIR/SEIU, take care of our most vulnerable New Yorkers at Elmhurst Hospital every day and night.” said Council Member Shekar Krishnan, Representing the 25th District, Elmhurst and Jackson Heights. “I am proud to stand on the picket lines with these healthcare heroes, just like they have stood with us before, during, and after the COVID pandemic. Mount Sinai must pay our public hospital physicians the same wages they pay others across the city. It is a moral obligation.”
