NY1 – Councilwoman Shahana Hanif, chair of the Council’s Committee on Immigration, joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Friday to talk about the tents at Orchard Beach in the Bronx.

“My concern is that the mayor, this administration is circumventing, going around the right-to-shelter law that we have in place by just giving off the responsibility to the New York City Emergency Management team,” she said.

The City – Councilmember Shahana Hanif, who attended the rally, told THE CITY that to her knowledge, the health department has not reached out to vendors since the law initially passed. Department officials are only now offering to engage with advocates, Hanif said.

“It hasn’t been transparent, and we’re looking to DOHMH to correct this and urgently begin issuing the new licenses,” she added.
