New York Times – Councilwoman Shahana Hanif, a co-chairwoman of the City Council’s Progressive Caucus and chairwoman of the Immigration Committee, said she agrees with the mayor that the Biden administration must speed up work authorizations for migrants. But she cautioned that the city must not demonize asylum seekers.

Bloomberg Law – City Council Member Shahana Hanif is spearheading the proposal that would make it “unlawful” for places of public accommodation like MSG to use any biometric recognition technology to identify customers. Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez is also sponsoring the measure.

The City – Brooklyn Council Member Shahana Hanif will introduce a bill Thursday that would, in effect, force the Bronx Zoo to give up custody of New York City’s two remaining elephants, Happy and Patty.
