“When the attack happened here in New York City on September 11th, I think Osama Bin Laden and the terrorists thought we might just give up, that we might just surrender. What he could never understand is the foundation that makes up America – that makes up New York. That foundation is built on courage and heroism and love of your neighbor.

“On September 11th, we saw a man who ran from the back of a plane, to the front of the plane, to bring down a plane to save the lives of people he never ever met. We saw men and women run into buildings that were on fire and that would collapse to save people that they would never, ever have met in their lives.

“We’ve seen people for 10 years risk their lives in military service, to make sure that something like that would never happen again. The reason Osama Bin Laden is dead is because he doesn’t understand America and he never understood America.

“He doesn’t understand and never understood that we will never leave any of our men or women behind, that we will never forget any of the saints of 9/11, that we would keep struggling and will keep struggling to bring them the justice they deserve — we have taken a great step forward in that effort today — so we can finally have them rest in peace.

“Thank you and I want to thank the president and all the men and women of our military service who have given their lives in this effort in the past decade.”
