Queens, NY – Today, in partnership with Christ Pentecostal Temple, Inc., Speaker Adrienne E. Adams hosted a street co-naming ceremony in honor of Mother Maude Ford and unveiled Mother Maude Ford Way at the intersection of Brinkerhoff Avenue and 157th Street in Jamaica, Queens.

“Mother Maude Ford was a pioneering community and faith leader who personified unwavering tenacity and determination,” said Speaker Adrienne Adams.

City Hall, NY – Today, the Council voted on legislation requiring inspections for self-closing doors in residential buildings. It is an additional fire safety measure to prevent fire tragedies, complementing the recent legislative package passed at the May 19 Stated Meeting and signed into law yesterday. In total, the bills passed by the Council are intended to strengthen fire safety in residences throughout New York City, in the aftermath of the January 9 Twin Parks tragic fire in the Bronx.

The bills respond to issues that led to the tragic residential building fire at the 19-story Twin Parks Northwest apartment building in the Fordham section of the Bronx on January 9 that claimed the lives of 17 New Yorkers, including eight children.

City Hall, NY – Today, the Council voted on Introduction 173-A, requiring the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to develop standards for inspecting the quality of various features of parks or playgrounds under its jurisdiction and issue a report to the Mayor and Council that would identify any such features that have routinely been given an unacceptable rating after having been inspected by DPR.

Council also votes on bill mandating inclusion of recent available data in the citywide M/WBE disparity study

City Hall, NY – Today, the Council voted on Introduction 134-A. This bill would amend Local Law 32, which makes it an unlawful discriminatory practice to post any job listing that does not include the minimum and maximum salary offered for the position.
