Queens, NY – Today, City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn announced that this year’s approved city capital budget includes $71 million over four years for critical repairs to the infrastructure at the city’s many CUNY campuses. The City Council and Bloomberg Administration will each split the capital funding cost and the State will match this new funding.

Queens, NY – Today, City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn and Council Member Leroy Comrie met with local residents at the Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Center in Jamaica to discuss the impact the FY 2013 budget will have on the seniors programs and other City services throughout Southeast Queens.

This meeting was one of several Southeast visits the Speaker made today, including a meeting with Community Board 13 Members and Civic and Community Leaders in Queens Village where she discussed, how under her leadership, the Council has passed a series of measures providing tax relief to small businesses, including an increase in the Unincorporated Business Tax (UBT) fixed credit on incomes up to $100,000, providing $28 million in small business tax relief, and an increase in the personal income tax credit for UBT taxes paid, saving taxpayers $35 million.

NEW YORK, NY – Today, City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn and Council Member Oliver Koppell visited to Riverdale Senior Services to announce the Council has increased funding for the City Department for the Aging in Fiscal Year 2013 to ensure all centers are kept open and that vital services were maintained. In the City’s adopted budget, the Council put in a total of $17,196,000 for senior services.

Legislation will illuminate the City’s process of building and funding quality affordable housing.

New York, NY- Today, the City Council will vote on a bill to dramatically increase transparency and accountability in New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) housing projects. The City allocates hundreds of millions of dollars towards housing development, and this bill will help to better assess the number of affordable units created and preserved while shedding light on HPD’s process of selecting and evaluating developers, how the City pays for those projects and whether the developments are well built.

“I am disheartened by the International Olympic Committee’s decision not to hold a minute of silence at this year’s opening ceremony to mark the 40th anniversary of the killing of 11 Israeli nationals at the 1972 Munich Olympics. News that the IOC has observed a minute of silence in the athlete’s village is a step forward, but it does not go far enough to properly remember the victims of that horrid act of terrorism.

“The vicious terrorist attack on innocent Israeli civilians in Bulgaria is deeply disturbing. The people of the City of New York know the pain that that these depraved acts can cause, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s families and to the people of the State of Israel.
