City Hall, NY – The Council today passed several resolutions in favor of pending state legislation related to pay equity, waste reduction, and victim services, as well as several finance and land use items.

Resolution 24, sponsored by Council Member Crystal Hudson, calls for the New York State Legislature to pass, and Governor Kathy Hochul to sign, the Fair Pay for Home Care Act.

I have serious concerns about the process, rationale and inequity in today’s decision to exempt professional athletes and performers from the City’s private employee vaccine requirement when over 1,400 city government workers, many of whom served bravely on the frontlines during this pandemic, were fired from their jobs for not getting vaccinated.

Call for clear communication, focused effort to address health and vaccination disparities
