New York, NY – “Today’s verdict is a relief. We have seen too many cases where justice was not delivered. And while I am relieved, I’d be remiss not to acknowledge the immense trauma George Floyd’s loved ones and the witnesses to his death endured throughout this trial. Nothing will ever alleviate their pain and suffering. My heart is with the Floyd family, his friends, his entire community, and all those who took the witness stand to deliver justice.  Although this verdict is an important step in the right direction, we know that much work remains. The generations of trauma policing has done and continues to do to communities of color is nothing short of an epidemic and cannot continue. This Council has been committed to redefining public safety and policing and will continue to do the hard but necessary work that our communities need going forward.”
