“Governor Cuomo’s unprecedented calls to strengthen gun control laws, end gender discrimination, raise the minimum wage and create an early voting system are bold, innovative ideas that will make New York stronger, safer and more equitable for all New Yorkers.
Raising the minimum wage and closing the loophole on the assault weapons ban are important actions that will make New York State a leader in reform nationwide.
I applaud the Governor’s ideas to protect low-lying areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. When we choose to rebuild, we must develop more resilient buildings that can withstand future storms.

I also want to thank Governor Cuomo and stand in strong support of his call to support New York’s neediest students by implementing full-day pre-kindergarten and community schools in areas of need.

Governor Cuomo was a key partner in the fight for marriage equality in New York State and I look forward to joining him as we fight for equality for all women: access to reproductive health care, justice for victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking, and economic justice for women. The City Council has worked for years on many of these issues, but we need state support to move forward.

Together, we can make our City and State a better, and more fair place for all New Yorkers, and pave the way for meaningful and lasting change.

Today’s proposals are smart, forward thinking ideas and I applaud Governor Cuomo for his tireless advocacy on behalf of all New Yorkers.”
