The years of over policing and issuing criminal summons to primarily black and brown communities resulting in almost 1.6 million summons warrants in NYC. In her 2016 and 2017 State of the City speeches, Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito called on the District Attorneys in each of the five boroughs to clear old, low-level, nonviolent summons warrants.
District Attorneys in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx agreed to vacate over 640,000 decade old arrest warrants in a single day, giving many a clean slate.

We are proud to provide $3 million in funding for this first phase of the reconstruction of the East River Esplanade seawall, in addition to $12 million allocated by the Mayor.
