Community members celebrated the second night of the Festival of Lights at the Chabad of Forest Hills North’s 10th annual Chanukah on the Park event last Thursday.
Guests in Yellowstone Park enjoyed fresh jelly donuts from Israel, Chabad-style dancing from the town of Lubavitch, Russia, a fire show and chocolate gelt distributed by Rabbi Mendy Hecht and the FDNY.

Richmond Hill High’s new addition will prepare students for hospitality careers

As part of the city’s ongoing effort to enhance educational opportunities, Richmond Hill High School is set to get a state-of-the-art culinary kitchen classroom.
On Oct. 2, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams (D-Jamaica), Councilmember Lynn Schulman (D-Forest Hills) and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards announced a $5 million capital allocation to fund the classroom’s construction.

More than 1,500 residents made their voices heard with participatory voting

City Councilmember Lynn Schulman (D-Forest Hills) on Monday announced the three participatory budgeting project winners in District 29, in which community members voted to decide how to allocate $1 million.
Voting was open to anyone 11 or older who works, lives or goes to school in the district, which achieved record turnout with 1,785 community members making their voices heard.

Council Member Lynn Schulman has announced Richmond Hill High School, P.S. 62Q Chester Park School and the NYPD as the winners of nearly half a million dollars each in capital funds for improvement projects through Participatory Budgeting.
Schulman, who represents Richmond Hill residents in the city council, announced the winners of the capital funds on Monday, May 20, and visited each of them to share her congratulations.

Queens Community Board 9 honored member Sylvia Hack for half a century of community service on Tuesday night.
At Queens Borough Hall, board members and a host of Queens elected officials honored Hack, a Kew Gardens resident who has served the board since 1974.
Several elected officials attended to personally applaud Hack’s years of service to the community and the borough, including Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Councilmember Lynn Schulman, Assemblymember David Weprin and State Senator Leroy Comrie.

The City Council passed legislation introduced by Council Member Lynn Schulman last month, solidifying the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s HealthyNYC initiative to extend the life expectancy of New Yorkers to 83 years over the next six years.
Schulman, who serves as the Chair of the Committee of Health, continues to ensure city agencies stay true to their commitment to help improve the health of New York natives.
