Richmond Hill High’s new addition will prepare students for hospitality careers

As part of the city’s ongoing effort to enhance educational opportunities, Richmond Hill High School is set to get a state-of-the-art culinary kitchen classroom.

On Oct. 2, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams (D-Jamaica), Councilmember Lynn Schulman (D-Forest Hills) and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards announced a $5 million capital allocation to fund the classroom’s construction.

Council Member Lynn Schulman, who represents City Council District 29, has secured over $10 million in capital funding for her district, marking a significant achievement in the fiscal year 2025 budget.

The council member directed these funds toward improving the quality of life for residents in her district, which includes Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill and Rego Park.

Movies Under the Stars, sponsored by Councilwoman Lynn Schulman (D-Forest Hills) continues in parks in the 29th District through mid-August. People are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Popcorn will be provided. Shows begin at dusk, roughly between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m.

“Paw Patrol,” the animated 2021 film based on the children’s television series, is on Tuesday, June 18, in Phil Rizzuto Park in South Richmond Hill, in coordination with the 102nd Precinct.

More than 1,500 residents made their voices heard with participatory voting

City Councilmember Lynn Schulman (D-Forest Hills) on Monday announced the three participatory budgeting project winners in District 29, in which community members voted to decide how to allocate $1 million.

Voting was open to anyone 11 or older who works, lives or goes to school in the district, which achieved record turnout with 1,785 community members making their voices heard.

Council Member Lynn Schulman has announced Richmond Hill High School, P.S. 62Q Chester Park School and the NYPD as the winners of nearly half a million dollars each in capital funds for improvement projects through Participatory Budgeting.

Schulman, who represents Richmond Hill residents in the city council, announced the winners of the capital funds on Monday, May 20, and visited each of them to share her congratulations.

A Community Board 9 monthly meeting on Tuesday, Apr. 9, turned into a night of recognition for one board member who has served on the board as a prime example of public servitude in its highest form for 50 years.

The Helen Marshall Cultural Center, inside of Queens Borough Hall, seated a gallery of local elected officials and representatives Tuesday night, with each holding certificates and special awards for Community Board 9 Member Sylvia Hack.

Queens Community Board 9 honored member Sylvia Hack for half a century of community service on Tuesday night.

At Queens Borough Hall, board members and a host of Queens elected officials honored Hack, a Kew Gardens resident who has served the board since 1974.

Several elected officials attended to personally applaud Hack’s years of service to the community and the borough, including Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Councilmember Lynn Schulman, Assemblymember David Weprin and State Senator Leroy Comrie.

In a rare show of unity, a bi-partisan group of city councilmembers, including several from Queens, penned a letter calling on the state to give the city more power to enforce illegal cannabis.

Last week, 29 councilmembers, including members from both the Progressive Caucus and right-leaning Common Sense Caucus, signed the letter addressed to state leaders looking for more local authority to pass regulations on closing down illegal cannabis shops, which number in the thousands.
