Council Member Joseph C. Borelli (R-South Shore) is
announcing today that the New York City Department of Transportation plans to
expand the dockless bike-share pilot program throughout Staten Island. Council
Member Borelli had requested the expansion in February so that DOT can further
evaluate the dockless bike share model within a larger geographic boundary with
expanded bicycle fleets.

City’s policy on how they test for lead in public school’s drinking water since
April of 2016 when he and Minority
Leader Steve Matteo wrote a letter to the Department of Education calling
on them to put an immediate end to the practice of “flushing,” or running
faucets to clear out contaminants before testing.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Staten Island commuters were shocked when opening their E-ZPass bills that said they were charged the non-resident price of $17 to cross the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge instead of the resident rate of $5.50.
Some residents were charged the non-resident price because they failed to flip a switch on their E-ZPass Flex transponder, which indicates either HOV or sub-HOV occupancy inside the vehicle.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — More than 1,000 Staten Islanders are among hundreds of thousands of federal workers not receiving a paycheck during the longest government shutdown in history, now going on 23 days.
U.S. Coast Guard employees stationed at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island are still patrolling the water during the shutdown.

Council Member Joseph C. Borelli (R-South Shore) and partner-group, HeartScan Services, offered free thyroid cancer screenings for police officers, precinct staff, and community members at the 123rd Precinct in Tottenville on Friday morning.
This is the second screening Borelli has hosted this year with HeartScan. The screenings are offered to all members of the community, especially those who are active and retired emergency responders.

I.S. 72 Students Enjoy “Greener NYC” Horticulture Program Funded by Council Member Borelli
The Horticultural Society of New York has been serving 6th graders at IS 72. This Fall, the students released ladybugs, transplanted herbs, planted bulbs and weeded the garden. In celebration of school pride, they the planted bulbs with orange and blue flowers. They planted Tangerine Beauty tulips and Scillia siberica for its cobalt blue blossoms.

The Dental Laboratory Technology program at Tottenville High School is the only Dental Laboratory program on Staten Island. The program is a three-year sequence enabling students to develop techniques and skills in the field of Dental Laboratory Technology and is NYSED CTE Approved Program.

More than $100,000 allocated from Council Member’s budget to install security cameras, business development, and beautification services.
Council Member Joseph C. Borelli (R-South Shore) is announcing that his office has allocated more than $100,000 in funding for security cameras, business support services, and beautification for south shore communities this fiscal year. The funds will be used to install seven new security cameras in Annadale, following Borelli’s previous years’ successful camera initiatives and NYPD partnerships in Eltingville and Great Kills’ commercial corridors.
