STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A project to expand Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC)’s neonatal (NICU) and pediatric intensive care units (PICU) was fueled with $7 million from the city’s budget, which was passed by the City Council on Monday.

The Staten Island City Council delegation, led by City Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli (R-South Shore), and Speaker Adrienne Adams secured the capital funds for the expansions.

Mayor Eric Adams received a warm reception in Staten Island Monday as he joined local politicians in the borough’s annual Memorial Day parade to honor fallen veterans.

The thousands of attendees lining Forest Avenue seemed happy to see Hizzoner among the floats, motorcades and vintage cars, marching to patriotic music in honor of those who died in service to the country.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The city’s fentanyl harm reduction public safety campaign struck a chord with a Staten Island politician who believes them to be a significant error of judgement.

Some of New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) subways and ad spaces feature advertisements with information about what fentanyl is, why it’s dangerous, how to safely consume the deadly and illegal substance.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A speed camera program expansion gained another layer of support Thursday as the City Council passed a resolution calling on the State Legislature to pass the broader trial program.

City Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli (R-South Shore) and City Councilman David Carr (R-Mid-Island) joined five of their Council colleagues in voting against the resolution asking the Legislature for an expansion to the city’s school zone speed camera system that would allow the cameras to run all day.
