COUNCIL MEMBER GUTIÉRREZ INTRODUCES BILL TO REINSTATE BIOTECHNOLOGY TAX CREDIT 

New York (June 9, 2023) – Today, Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez announced the introduction of legislation to reignite the growth of the biotechnology sector and foster innovation in New York City. The bill would reinstate the biotechnology tax credit that lapsed in 2019, reauthorized by New York State, that would enable investors and owners of qualified emerging technology companies (QETCs) focused on biotechnology to claim a tax credit, thereby encouraging the manufacturing of emerging technology to flourish within the city.

NEW YORK (June 8, 2023) – The NYC Council Committee on Technology, chaired by Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez, held a hearing yesterday to comprehensively discuss the implementation of LinkNYC and the deployment of 5G towers across the city. The hearing brought together over 100 individuals to testify, representing a diverse range of perspectives and insights, both in favor and against the initiative.

NEW YORK (February 16, 2022)  – New York City Council Member and Chair of the Technology Committee Jennifer Gutiérrez held the NYC Council’s first-ever oversight hearing yesterday on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.  

The hearing provided New York City agencies an opportunity to share their work in this space and efforts to implement blockchain technology, which has been repeatedly championed by Mayor Eric Adams.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (October 12, 2022) – On Wednesday, October 12, the New York City Council voted in the affirmative on a package of child care related bills, including critically important legislation from Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez, the Marshall Plan for Moms Taskforce (Int-242). The taskforce will develop and issue recommendations on how New York City can support working mothers, parents, and caregivers, and is based on the Marshall Plan for Moms movement, founded by Reshma Saujani.

NEW YORK (September 30, 2022) – On Wednesday, September 28th, Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez, in partnership with Woodhull Hospital, held a resource fair for new asylum seekers in response to a lack of supportive services provided by the City to many of the migrants. We write to express our very serious concerns regarding the exclusion of North Brooklyn in any of the immediate hurricane emergency planning initiatives announced by the Mayor’s Office and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on September 1st. While we were pleased to see the thoughtful and impactful resiliency strategies and investments that are planned or in progress across our city, we cannot ignore the blatant exclusion of North Brooklyn neighborhoods, primarily Greenpoint, Williamsburg, and Bushwick.
