Education in the 21st century is not at all what we have imagined. The present-day challenges that families across District 45 and beyond face are inexcusable.

We are nearly halfway through the 2020-2021 school year and yet 77,000 students still lack the internet-equipped iPads that are necessary for remote learning. Without computers or affordable internet access, the achievement gap will only worsen in divested communities.

Sukkot

Wishing all who will observe Sukkot, a Chag Sameach!

Every day, we walk in faith that G-d is always present, to protect and provide for us in every season. May this occasion bring great joy to all, as families throughout District 45 give thanks and celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was inspirational, a trailblazer that lead the legal fight for women’s equality. She was an exemplary public servant whose unparalleled career and record as a champion for women’s and reproductive rights will continue to inspire future generations. As co-chair of the Women’s Caucus, I am heartbroken by the news but grateful for her groundbreaking work and will continue to carry the mantle in the fight for gender equity.

We Will Never Forget

Nineteen years later, we remember…

The attacks that forever altered our lives, but not who we are as New Yorkers —resilient and united in the face of tragedy.

The acts of heroism that inspired hope despite the tremendous loss that we shared.

We honor the memories of the loved ones that we lost on this day, in the weeks, months, and years that followed the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
