BROOKLYN, NY- Today, Council Member Farah N. Louis (D-Brooklyn), issued the following statement after NYC Housing Works employees voted to unionize and move forward with contract negotiations.
STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER LOUIS
“Congratulations and a job well done to the newest members of The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), the employees of NYC Housing Works. As a former RWDSU member and newest Member of the New York City Council, I was proud to stand in solidarity with you against the repeated attempts to delay the vote to organize. Your two-year campaign for workers’ rights and workplace protection was hard-fought and won with courage, strength, tenacity. This vote is a tremendous victory for the staff and clients of NYC Housing Works, and the City to ensure continuity of services for homeless and low-income New Yorkers,” said Council Member Farah N. Louis, a member of the Council Committee on Civil Service and Labor.
