FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BROOKLYN, NY — Council Member Farah N. Louis (D-Brooklyn), Co-Chair of the New York City Council’s Women’s Caucus, released the following statement after 50-year-old Dorothy Clarke-Rozier was fatally stabbed in a random attack early Sunday morning while walking to work at the nearby Pathmark in East Flatbush. The alleged suspect was apprehended by the NYPD.

STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER LOUIS

“Our community is hurting and terrified by the random acts of violence that we have seen over the past several months. The pandemic coupled with systemic failures has unnecessarily put innocent people like 50-year-old Dorothy Clarke-Rozier in harm’s way. Her death is a painful reminder of the multiple crises that are ravaging our city and the urgent need for a major overhaul of our city’s approach to uprooting the causes of violence. Public safety goes far beyond community policing, it is time that we take real action towards combating mental illness, drug and substance abuse, gun trafficking, homelessness, among other issues. On behalf of District 45, I offer my sincerest condolences to her family and colleagues.”
