On Monday, Council Member Farah Louis and Brooklyn Borough
President Antonio Reynoso hosted Quisqueya: A Celebration of Haitian and Dominican
Heritage. The event is a celebration of both National Hispanic Heritage Month and National
Dessalines Day, which was observed earlier this month. Quisqueya brings communities from all
corners of New York City together to acknowledge our accomplishments, commonalities and
shared roots.
The event was jointly hosted by Brian Simon and Julissa Ferreras-Copeland of Hollis Public
Affairs. Dominican-American and Haitian-American New Yorkers were honored at the
celebration for their influences in fields including art, music, government and film and their
contributions to New York City culture and policy.
