FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK ––– Council Member Farah Louis (D-Brooklyn), Co-Chair of the Women’s Caucus and Vice Co-Chair of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus, issued the following statement on incoming Governor Kathy Hochul.

STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH LOUIS

“Yesterday, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul addressed the people of New York State a day after Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced he would be resigning after a sexual harassment scandal. In her remarks, Hochul said that she is ready to take over as governor on August 24. She also vowed to set a better tone in state government.

This is welcome news and a promising start to a historic administration. New Yorkers need our first female governor to clean up Albany’s toxic and sexist workplace culture. We also need a leader who is focused on the state’s continued battle with COVID-19; the uncertainty facing our schools and economy; and the ongoing crisis of untreated mental illness and rising gun violence that is devastating working-class communities of color across our state.

I am confident that Governor Hochul has the foresight, integrity, and ability to lead as a shining light in this dark moment. I look forward to working with her on the many serious issues facing Council District 45 and New York State.”
