FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK ––– Council Member Farah N. Louis, Vice Co-Chair of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus, issued the following statement after Wednesday’s shooting in East Flatbush.

STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER FARAH N. LOUIS

“Sending heartfelt prayers to the family of a 21-year-old man who was senselessly shot and killed in East Flatbush yesterday, barely a mile away from the Lenox Road Baptist Church where Governor Andrew Cuomo and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams convened to address the summer spike in shootings. We mourn the loss of this young man and extend our support towards his family as they cope with this preventable tragedy. As New Yorkers, we cannot become desensitized to violence. We cannot accept shootings in our community as the new norm. Gun violence is an epidemic that requires us to work collectively to end it. Investments in proven community violence intervention programs is needed, but we must also identify ways to stop the flow of illegal firearms used to commit these crimes. If you have any information regarding yesterday’s shooting, please contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
