NEW YORK, NY — Council Member Farah N. Louis (D-Brooklyn) issued the following statement after a student at Brooklyn College tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19.

STATEMENT BY COUNCIL MEMBER LOUIS

“On Thursday evening, a member of the Brooklyn College community tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). Members of the campus community—students, faculty, and staff—have been notified. As a precaution, Brooklyn College is closing their entire campus today, Friday, March 13th for cleaning. This mandate will also affect grades 11 and 12 of Brooklyn College Academy, which operates on the campus. Grades 9 and 10 of Brooklyn College Academy, which operate off-campus, will remain open. Grab and go meals will be served at Midwood High School at the main entrance for Brooklyn College Academy students today.

Brooklyn College, as part of the CUNY system, suspended on-campus classes effective March 12-18, 2020 and will conduct the remainder of the Spring semester online.

Our office is monitoring the situation. Let us remain calm and vigilant. Our community is resilient and we will push through. We extend our well wishes to the student for a full recovery.”
