NEW YORK, NY – Council Member Eric Dinowitz has been chosen among New York’s most influential college and university leaders for City & State’s 2023 Higher Education Power 100, which lists New York’s higher education leaders, including lawmakers, labor leaders, philanthropists, advocates and other players in the world of postsecondary education.

Among his accomplishments as Chair of the Higher Education Committee, Council Member Dinowitz passed first of its kind legislation–which is one of only two bills that have ever passed through the Committee and passed by the full body. “I have been focused on accessibility for people with disabilities through legislation and advocacy, most recently with the passage of Local Law 18 of 2023,” says Council Member Dinozwitz. “The bill will help ease the transition of accommodations for high school seniors with disabilities to their college or university of choice.”

The selection highlights this passed legislation by the Council Member to increase programs and coordination to make it easier for New York City students with disabilities to transition to college and his work to address antisemitism at CUNY, holding a committee hearing and other meetings to press university leaders to address the issue.

 “I am reimagining the higher education committee to make transformative change and to bring up critical issues for students and faculty,” says Council Member Dinozwitz. “The target is an equitable budget, food security, mental health services, workforce development, support for veterans and immigrants, and services for students with disabilities.” 

City and State notes that, in his second year leading the New York City Council’s Higher Education Committee, the council member is making a mark. This is his second consecutive year named on the list. The Council Member was ranked 60^th in 2022 and has moved to 45^th on this year’s list.
