Bronx, NY — Today, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Council Member Eric Dinowitz, Council Member Carmen De La Rosa, and Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson hosted a joint ribbon cutting event to celebrate the newly renovated John F. Kennedy Campus Athletic Fields in the Bronx.
The JFK Campus Athletic Fields are utilized by several high schools across the Bronx and serve thousands of Bronx students. As a $5 million joint investment between Council Member Eric Dinowitz, Council Member Carmen De La Rosa, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, and NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, these renovated fields will provide high-quality outdoor space for thousands of Bronx students, and are expected to host regular practices, games, and community events, providing a safe and inclusive space for youth to grow and play the sports they enjoy.
“Our Bronx students deserve world-class facilities. As a former teacher on the JFK Campus, I know firsthand how critical these athletic fields are to students who deserve safe and modern athletic spaces,” said Council Member Eric Dinowitz. “These fields aren’t just places to play sports – they’re spaces where young people learn leadership, teamwork, confidence, and resilience. I’m incredibly proud to have helped secure this investment for our students and our borough, and am confident we’re giving our Bronx students the resources they need to thrive on and off the field.”
“Providing athletic opportunities is crucial for our students’ college readiness, health, and long-term success,” said Council Member Carmen De La Rosa (CD-10). “Working with Council Member Dinowitz and Bronx Borough President Gibson, we’ve added a new field at the John F. Kennedy Educational Campus, which houses multiple high schools, expanding opportunities for hundreds of students in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan,”
“Today marks a proud moment for the Bronx as we unveil the newly renovated John F. Kennedy Campus Athletic Fields,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson. “This investment is more than just a facelift for our facilities—it’s a commitment to our youth, their health, their futures, and the importance of creating educational environments where they can thrive. By investing in our schools, we are also investing in our scholars and their future.”
“Community Board 8 is thrilled to see these long-needed improvements at the JFK Campus. These fields are more than just facilities – they’re community assets that support youth development, healthy living, and neighborhood pride,” said Bronx Community Board 8 District Manager Farrah Kule Rubin. “This renovation should serve as an inspiration for what’s possible at all schools across the Bronx.”
