Citations

The Council presents citations to community individuals or organizations for their contributions to the district or recognition for graduations.

To submit a citation request, please email our office with the following:

  • Honoree name and why a citation is requested for them
  • Date of event

Citation requests must be submitted more than 5 business days before the event. If a request is submitted within less time, there is no guarantee that it will be finished on time for your event.

Proclamations

The Council presents proclamations to community leaders and organizations for their retirements, their birthdays (if they are over 75), their anniversaries (that end in 5 or 0), or as a part of a Council Chambers event.

To submit a proclamation request, please email our office with the following:

  • Honoree name and why a proclamation is requested for them
  • A brief biography of the honoree. The biography should tell a story about the life of the honoree and be 300 to 400 words. Resumes are not accepted.
  • Date of event
  • Information about the event. You can send in a picture of an invitation or a link to an event page.

Proclamation requests must be submitted more than 15 business days before the event. If a request is submitted within less time, you must submit a proclamation draft and there is no guarantee that it will be finished on time for your event.

Street Co-Namings

Twice a year, the Council passes legislation to co-name an intersection in honor of an individual who has made a significant impact in the district. The individual must be deceased for at least two years with some exceptions. In order for our office to consider a street co-naming proposal, you must reach out to your local community board and ask them for a recommendation. We defer to the recommendation of the local community board before we submit any street co-naming requests.

After you receive the Community Board’s recommendation, please reach out to Arlean Gillin at agillin@council.nyc.gov and May Vutrapongvatana at mvutrapongvatana@council.nyc.gov with the following information:

  • Name of the New Co-Named Street:
  • Date of the Street Co-Naming Ceremony:
  • Time of Ceremony:
  • The intersection where the co-naming sign will be installed:
  • Exact location new sign will be installed: NE, NW, SE, SW
  • Under which existing street name sign the co-naming is to be placed:
  • A CLEAR photograph of the intersection the sign is to be placed – we must be able to clearly see the existing street signs
  • The recommendation letter from the Community Board
