Public Library After School Programs

The Castle Hill Library offers free weekly activities and classes for kids, teens, and adults. They have activities like lego creation hour, teen gaming, and adult art therapy– all free of charge. See their events calendar here.

The Clason Point Library’s free activities include career and college counseling for teens, storytime and afterschool programs for kids, family movie nights, and more! Check out all of the things they have to offer here

The Parkchester Library offers weekly events and programs for Bronxites of all ages. For the kids they have an afterschool program, kids computer club, and more. Teens can join the beginners coding club and adults can enjoy spanish and computer classes, plus so much more. Check out the full events schedule here.

The Soundview Library has plenty of helpful and fun events weekly. Including, a lego club for kids, a manga readers club for teens, computer basics for older adults, a knitting circle, and more. You can check out their events calendar here.

Community and Senior Centers

Holy Family Church’s Mechler Hall Senior Center services our seniors with programming, events, hot meals and more every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 AM – 2 PM at 2158 Watson Ave in Castle Hill. You can reach them at 347-281-4079 for more information.

R.A.I.N. Parkchester Older Adult Center located at 1380 Metropolitan Avenue serves seniors with activities, hot meals, and more. You can reach them at 718-597-9220 for more information. 

The Castle Hill YMCA located at 2 Castle Hill Avenue offers programming for children, teens, adults, and seniors. They are open Mon-Fri from 6:30am – 8:30pm and Sat-Sun from 8:00am – 3:00pm. They have numerous facilities including a computer lab, fitness center, pool, teen center, and more. Join the YMCA as a member or volunteer here

The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club located at 1930 Randall Ave, The Bronx, NY 10473 offers family friendly activities and afterschool programming for children of all ages. Call them at  (718) 893-8254 ext. 11225.

If you or anyone you know is in need of free immigration assistance please call 646-664-9400 to schedule a virtual or in-person appointment. All in-person appointments will take place at the District Office of Council Member Amanda Farías at 778 Castle Hill Avenue. 

Services are provided by CUNY Citizenship Now and are funded by Council Member Farías. 

4 NYCHA Campuses in CD18 are Eligible for Free Broadband

The Mayor’s Big Apple Connect Program with Altice is currently connecting Bronxites to broadband for free at Sonia Sotomayor Houses, Soundview Houses, Glebe Houses, and Monroe Houses. If you are currently living in one of these NYCHA developments make sure to take advantage of this opportunity!

For installation of a new account or conversion of an existing Optimum account, residents should call 866-580-1410 (Monday – Saturday, 10am – 7pm ET), confirm their address at a participating NYCHA property, and then schedule an installation. Residents can also visit a nearby Optimum Store and speak with a representative.
