An active game of musical chairs in the City Council ended on Thursday, with changes in store for nearly a dozen committee chair positions for the 2024-2025 session.

The full list of committee membership, which was approved by the rules committee on Thursday morning, is expected to later be approved by the full council in the afternoon.

In a move that will reduce waste in the nation’s largest city, the New York City Council has enacted legislation requiring operators of sports stadiums and arenas to allow attendees to bring refillable beverage containers into events in those venues. 

The legislation—introduced by Council Member Shaun Abreu of Manhattan’s 7th District—directs that stadium and arena managers, “shall not prohibit an individual attending any professional or collegiate sporting competition.

Pour one out for stadium reusable bottle bans.

The New York City Council passed a bill Wednesday requiring professional and college sports venues in the city to let ticketholders bring reusable drink containers into their events.

Any clever fans looking for a loophole to sneak liquor into games may still be out of luck — the reusable bottles would have to be empty to get in.

Community members throughout the city must submit their final votes by Friday for budget allocations.

With around 21,000 votes cast, New York City Councilmember Gale Brewer took 81% of them, continuing her pattern of handily beating contenders for the District 6 Council seat. Diane di Stasio earned 17% of the vote, and Barbara Simpson got .07%. According to NY1, as of now, Brewer got more votes than any other councilmember in the city.
