More than a dozen Israeli hostage posters have been ripped down between West 72nd and West 92nd Streets on the Upper West Side. A count carried out by West Side Rag on Wednesday morning found 15 of the posters torn up or almost completely taken down on different sections of Broadway, Amsterdam, and Columbus Avenues within the 20-block stretch.

Today, Council Member Shaun Abreu celebrated $7.4 million in funding secured for Ten Mile River Playground in Riverside Park in the FY24 budget—a historic investment in green space made possible by Speaker Adrienne Adams.

Council Member Abreu and Speaker Adams were joined by NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue, the Riverside Park Conservancy, and community members at the playground’s basketball courts to announce this first phase of a long-term plan to revitalize and winterize the recreational space at Ten Mile River Playground.

The New York City Council on Oct. 5 passed Intro 0703, which aims to prevent evictions for tenants receiving rental assistance through the CityFHEPS rental assistance program.

CityFHEPS is a New York City program under the Department of Social Services that provides rental aid to families who receive cash assistance and who have previously lost their housing due to reasons such as evictions, health issues, or domestic violence.

District 7 Council member Shaun Abreu, CC ’14, introduced a City Council resolution Thursday afternoon calling on the New York City Department of Education to establish a curriculum on machine learning and the responsible use of generative artificial intelligence for public school students.

Abreu’s bill cites the widespread use of AI as necessitating new guidance within the city’s public schools.

Just over a dozen schools in Harlem have received trash containers to prevent rodents from diving into loose trash piles.

The effort to install rat-proof trash containers was led by Council Member Shaun Abreu (D-7), who announced his efforts to “start containerizing our trash” on the X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter.
