New York City Council elections concluded on Tuesday with District 7 City Council member Shaun Abreu, CC ’14, holding his seat and District 9 City Council member Yusef Salaam victorious in his first City Council election.
Both City Council members will serve a two-year term because of a decennial redistricting process. Traditional four-year City Council terms will return in 2025.
Abreu, who is beginning his second term on the City Council, won his first City Council race in 2021 against 11 other candidates and ran uncontested this year. Abreu, a former tenants rights lawyer, wants to further initiatives he began in his first term.
