City Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander was back at 26 Federal Plaza Friday, three days after his arrest there, to once again observe court hearings for immigrants subject to immediate deportation by ICE.

Lander’s arrest and hours-long detainment on June 17 sparked backlash across the city and country.

NYC Coalition, Shut Rikers Campaign, New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), Make the Road Action, Bronx Defenders, the Immigrant Defense Project, the Katal Center for Equity, Health, and Justice, elected officials, immigrants and people directly impacted by detention at Rikers held a rally and press conference outside City Hall to denounce an executive order issued by the Mayor on Tuesday allowing ICE to establish an office within Rikers Island jail.
