Dear Mr. Schreiber,

I am writing on behalf of my office and the residents of Park Slope and surrounding neighborhoods to express deep concern about the potential closure of Steve’s 9th Street Market (C-Town). For decades, this market has been a vital lifeline for our community—particularly for seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income residents who rely on its affordability, accessibility, and essential services.

Conveniently located along a major bus route, Steve’s 9th Street Market is uniquely accessible to residents with mobility challenges and limited transportation options. Unlike other supermarkets in the area, it offers a manageable, familiar, and welcoming shopping experience that cannot easily be replaced.

The community deserves to understand the factors leading to this decision and to explore solutions together—whether that means identifying support to keep the market open, or ensuring that affordable, accessible grocery services remain at this location. My office, in partnership with local stakeholders and community leaders, stands ready to assist in this effort.

To that end, I respectfully request a meeting with you at your earliest convenience. We are eager to work with you to preserve food access for the residents who depend on this store. Thank you for your longstanding presence in the neighborhood and for your attention to this urgent matter. I can be reached directly at SHanif@council.nyc.gov or 718-499-1090.
